2008 - A new beginning
and maybe an end of wedding photography?
More than likely, by 2009, I may stop taking the normal bookings for wedding photography and start taking up bookings for commercial video work. This will include TVC and special documentary assignments. My team and I have just successfully completed an assignment and although it was a good challenge trying to acquire and secure the footage within a very limiting time line, we managed to produce a piece that was to our satisfaction (and I believe to the satisfaction of our clients whom we thank for allowing us the opportunity to prove our abilities to deliver). Those of you who have already seen it will know what I am talking about here. This year, I believe is the beginning of the transition of my field into cinematography. Of course, I am yet to be as confident in that field as my photography but I believe it is something that I will enjoy doing as much as my photography. Only time will tell if this would overtake my core business in photography but I will give it every chance I can to do so. If there is any positions out there as Director of Photography (with the appropriate remunerations, of course) I am willing to look at that opportunity.
As for weddings.. it has been a wonderful period of experience and enjoyment. I will still shoot weddings based on a case-by-case basis depending on the time I have not assigned to the video/cinematography work. Contact me if you would like me to shoot your wedding and I will always give it the utmost consideration. Again, depending on the demand, the most I would accept is one or two a month.
I will also most likely put up for sale a bulk of my photographic gear (lenses/bodies etc) for funding video equipment. Let me know if there is anything you would be interested in by the end of this year.
PS. This doesnt mean I will stop taking pics.. just means I will be shooting less.
