Random pics

From a recent wedding that's not in the private gallery. Images from the Khatam Koran and Hantar Berian.

Dark side seems appealing

Have just seen some pics taken from the D3 at ISO5000. More reasons for me to switch to Nikon. Sigh. From the looks of it.. if I keep in the photography industry, I probably will. Unless Interhouse here finds a reason for me to stay loyal to Canon.

Its never too early

but sometimes being early can also be too late. To date, 6 inquiries via email and phone for 8th Aug 2008. One came to see me today.. just now another called to make an appointment for tomorrow. You may think, "What?!? A year ahead?" and those who think, "Its still early, nobody books so early". Unfortunately, I will have to turn away and refer the one tomorrow and all the other four more because the one today confirmed just now. It was only a difference of 5 hrs. My 8-8-08 wedding will be one in Kuala Belait. Normally these are rejected outright due to the distance and timing but the bride offered a counter-offer I couldnt deny. I get to be driven there and back. How could I not accept?

According to my poll, August 08 has 14 weddings. 6 apparently on 8-8-08 and only one of which I can shoot. It will be the same with all your other favourite wedding photographers. My advice can only be.. if your dates are confirmed, book them there and then. Else, it WILL be too late. My sincerest apologies to the others who called and inquired, I hope you understand I have to follow the 'first come, first served" policy.

On a side note, inquiries and bookings for the year 2008 are now starting to gain momentum. My estimate is an average of 3 inquiries a week and one confirmation every 2 weeks. As I said previously 2008 is a year that I will be limiting my wedding coverage to 2 a month. I am serious about making more time to bring my wife and son out to do things a normal family would do.. go out.. play.. etc. I also intend to spend more time expanding my videography/cinematography experience. I'm not quite sure if I will actually get any jobs shooting wedding videos (because everyone wants to hire me for photos :( ) but hopefully, I will just get to shoot video if not just of my son at play... hopefully, I can muster a group of video fellas out for a shoot soon.. ;p

Work and work.. its time to plan a break

I've been swamped with work. So many albums to do.. and still shooting weddings. Next year, I'm cutting down my weddings per month to two and maybe bumping up my rates for Aug 08. Seriously, I'm already feeling the pains, literally. On top of that, my son will be two years old next year and I've felt I missed so much of his life. I have to make time for him, if not at least until he starts going to school.

These are some pics that I've had the opportunity to shoot recently.. one was the kite festival and the other just now as my son was crying to get out of the house..

Some people overcome obstables this way, whilst others do it..

... this way.

So many amazing things to shoot in Brunei.. if only we opened our eyes.

Its been a whilst since I shot a sunset.. today's was especially gorgeous.. especially with my 70-200 and Kenko 2X.

Outdoor wedding event

I recently had an opportunity to cover an outdoor Ambil-ambillan event and for a veteran shooter, it was a breath of fresh air. Syukurlah at that time, especially during this monsoonish time, it didn't rain. It had be raining every evening night after night the days before. Although shooting a night event outdoors in dim ambient lighting is a photographer's nightmare, luckily the available light was just sufficient enough for me to get enough good shots to record the event. And the people (family) who organised and prepared everything were superb in their teamwork fortifying the very Bruneian concept of working together. The Bride's father whom I met during their engagement had only recently passed away and whilst the event was a quiet and peaceful time for remembering their father, the ambience and emotions present that night along with the entire setup was one that I am sure he would be pleased and proud of.

My heartiest congratulations to the newly weds.

Selected pics are on the front page (reset your browser cache) and rest will be in the private galleries once I've finished preparing them.

No more tagboards

Well.. deleted my tag board. Sorry. Like Ranoadidas, it seems like these boards have become more of a hassle than a convenience. I dont have time to maintain it as much as Rano.

Update: Moved tagboard to this blog instead.
