Mix Pics

I was invited to one of the leading law firms in Brunei today who had just recently moved into their new premises in the capital. I brought along my camera and the 70-200. With what I shot today, being really bored, went into overdrive with manipulations.

A familiar smile on a familiar face :)

Spiritual Indeed

I seldom read or recommend people's personal blogs but after being passed this one.. hehehe
She's just so damn funny.. love her style of writing.. not the pro writer type but the everyday down-to-earth in your face personal opinions that's, well, for lack of a better phrase, in your face :)

Keep it up, Nonnie.

master this master that

Been surfing around a few websites recently after being pointed to them...
Saw a few comments that made me half-regret doing this apprenticeship thingy...
Nothing further to be said... no more apprenticeships...
Apparently knowledge and experience flows from the drains...

Thank you Public Works Department.. Once AGAIN!

Water, water everywhere but not a drop for the inhabitants of Kg Subok.. the water pump that went a few weeks go.. effectively had stopped water supply for a week was eventually replaced (or was it?) and has again.. has gone again.. such competence.. really nothing further more to say except to brace a another long week of ferrying water and rationing water..
For a country with such a generous leader, I wonder where all the resources is going to that we have to endure this...

Fun and Games

I was having fun with Facebook with a friend and decided to play around with this. There is this app called Friend for Sale! on FB.. basically, the game allows you to buy and sell friends for a profit. This friend challenged me to generate enough money to buy her ($50k worth!). So.. for fun and as an introduction to the new studio opening up this Feb, I'm offering for those in FB, whoever who buys me and keeps me the longest by 1st Feb 2008 (midnight) will get a free portraiture session at the new studio.. Let's see how this goes. As she said.. "Let the Games Begin!" Login to your facebook to play.

Outstanding albums

I've just realised I've got so many outstanding albums... a few were waiting for the new photobooks which I'm happy to say are now locked and loaded.. others... hehehe.. are still waiting for the pengantins to pick... my hdds are filling up to the brim.. and I dont think I'm going to add more space.. its already becoming too much... Sooo.. for the weddings coming up.. I will start picking the pics myself for the album.. I apologise first if I include or dont include the wrong people.. I seriously can no longer afford adding more space to my workstation..

If there are other pics you want included, you will have to print them out and replace them in your album from your original files.. Sorry ah.. up till now.. most people have been taking their time to choose their pics and i dont really mind the time taken but the longer you take to pick, the longer I have to store them on my hard drives as pending.. its really taking a drain on my IT resources.. I dont want to increase prices yet again to cater for buying more space... its not fair to the others..

Just a heads up..

Working in the sun?

"A lot of them expect $2,000 as starting pay, but they don't have any experience, whereas foreigners are happy to get less and work their way to get an increment," she pointed out.

Working in the human resource sector, Nayagam said that many of the applicants she has spoken to "expect a high basic salary even though they have low qualifications".

"A lot of them come in and ask for an office job, but when I ask about their qualifications, some of them said they have Form 3 results. They don't want to work in the hot sun or do dirty jobs. So working in the office is maybe a status thing," she said. - taken from an article of the Brunei Times. Link from the title.

ok.. what is it about working in the sun that people dont like? Is it really a status thing? Is it degrading?

Here is my 2 cts for those of you who may think this way (hopefully, you dont but may know someone who does)

I've a 2:1 business degree from a prestigious private college in the UK. I know people who are YTMs, YMs,ministers, perm secs, pehins and datos down to the lowly grounds keeper. Does that make me cringe about having to walk around at 11 am to 2 pm in the Sun every sunday when I'm out carry 20kg+ of gear sweating profusely covering a client's wedding? No. I also get my hands dirty with colleagues and subordinates when the need arises.. I even wipe sh't of my son's butt when necessary (comes part and parcel of being a father but that's besides the point :)). During my studies in Italy, I worked with a great Sardegnian family serving dishes as a waiter, washing tons of plates, arranging tables and sweeping floors. I even slept for a month in a old horse stable!

Matter of fact.. I kinda enjoy it.. it actually feels good to sweat a bit and dirty yourself up a bit. Lose some of that excess water stored up doing nothing. Being highly educated shouldnt make us snobs or make us feel degrade because we are in the sun, hot and sweaty.. in fact.. just the opposite. Think about it.. how many educated govt officials actually get to sweat in the sun? Most of them are holed up sitting in their cool comfy offices feeling depressed because all they do is stay indoors. Seriously.. one of the things I learnt well during my long stay in London was how the lack of sunlight (vitamin D!!) causes depression and understood why many Northerners hang out sunbathing for a tan. Here.. in this abundance of natural sun.. they stay indoors.. what a waste.

So guys/gals out there.. looking for jobs.. what you do shows what kind of person you are. Are you one to shy away from these little things or are you the person who will overcome all obstacles to reach your goal?
